Ambassadors

MAC09 is excited to welcome professional triathletes, Tim Berkel and Jesse Featonby and mountain biker, Tory Thomas as ambassadors for MAC09.

Tim Berkel

Tim Berkel is a professional triathlete who began the sport six years ago in his hometown of Albury as a way of keeping fit for footy. He never looked back, and for the past two years has been travelling the world racing and getting some great results and establishing himself on the professional circuit.

His recent breakthrough win at Ironman Western Australia made him the second youngest person to ever win an Ironman title, with the third fastest time on Australian soil to boot. He now resides in Port Macquarie when not in the USA or Europe racing.

Tim was an Ambassador for the Multisport AlburyCity event in 2008 and is excited to be a part of this fantastic community event once again. He hopes to see everyone getting involved, regardless of their experience or fitness!

Tory Thomas

Tory's story is one of determination and courage. In March 2005 her life was turned upside down when struck by a car when riding home from work. The then Australian solo 24-hour MTB champion underwent surgery for a badly broken pelvis, ending her hopes of becoming the world solo 24-hour champion that year.

Now four years later and after an extensive rehabilitation program, Tory has risen to the top of her sport as National XC Champion for 06/07 and National Marathon MTB Champion 06.

Her sights are now firmly set on the National XC Championships, Oceania Championships and racing the World Cups to earn her selection to represent Australia at the 09 World XC Championships.

Make sure you give Tory a big cheer as she competes in Round 6 of the Victorian State Series XC Mountain Bike Race as the event ambassador for the MAC09.

Jesse Featonby

Up and coming pro Australian triathlete, Jesse Featonby, is excited to be the MAC09 ambassador at this years event. Now residing in Canberra, Jesse’s sporting career, although short, is impressive – representing Australia for both the Junior World Duathlon Championships in 2005 and U23 Oceania Championships in 2006, amongst other state and national victories in triathlon and duathlon.

Jesse’s ambitions are to race the world cup circuit and represent Australia at the 2012 London Olympics.

Jesse will be competing in several of the events at the MAC09, so make sure you say hi to our local hero.
